Welcome!
The Humanizing Work Conference is a different kind of gathering. You’re going to learn, engage, and work hard at Humanizing Work (HW). And you’re going to make great connections and have a really good time while learning, engaging, and working.
In order to make this kind of interactive gathering work, we’ll need to agree on some things. You’ve probably seen some of these at our training workshops:
One Conversation
During sessions, ather than having a side conversation or chat, bring your thoughts into the larger conversation of your group or session. Make a note to yourself if it’s not the right time to share.
Don’t Let Technology Get in the Way
Take steps to eliminate distractions from technology (e.g., turn off notifications). And though the entire conference is virtual, we still recommend taking notes on paper (and we’re providing a lovely notebook to do just that).
Respect Time Boxes
Some activities will happen with a timer running. Pace yourself so you can achieve the goal of the time box. It may still go off before you’re ready, and we ask that you still make the choice to respect the time box and rejoin the group.
Your Right to Pass
You can choose to be an observer for any activity.
Our Right to Facilitate
Our job is to help everyone learn as much as possible. To that end, we’re going to facilitate the discussions and activities. Sometimes, that will mean deferring a side topic you’d like to pursue further.
Respect People
Our default guideline for interacting with others in and around the conference is to respect other people; treat them as you’d like to be treated if you were in their shoes.
We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free learning experience for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, or religion (or lack thereof) choices. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the organizers.
Harassment includes offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of events, inappropriate contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact any of the conference organizers immediately. We will do everything possible to assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe. We value your attendance.
Thanks for being a part of the Humanizing Work Community. We look forward to our time together!
